What is Rooting? What are Benefits and Disadvantages of it?

on · Filled Under: · Leave a Comment

What is Rooting?

All you need to know about ROOTING ANDROID DEVICES

Android Rooting is the process of gaining root access to your android powered device. After gaining root access, you could get access to view, modify, or delete system files. You can remove the bloatware like Touchwiz, HTC Sense etc by rooting your device. You can customize the boot animation, by modifying the boot image on your phone. You gain the full access to read only memory of your device and modify it too. You can install different UI ROMS on your device rather than the stock rom. Rooting is just like "Jailbreaking" your iOS device.

What is Rooting?

You could even install custom Baseband, Kernel, and Overclock your phone for better and smooth performance. You can increase battery life and also wifi tethering with rooting. While rooting your device, there's a big risk of bricking your device, but its now only a old boring disclaimer, if you do the process safely, then there's no such risk.

By rooting your device, you can use special applications which require root access too.

In short, Rooting will make you the Superuser of your device.

What are Advantages of Rooting?

Let's talk why is it good to root?

Custom Roms

The best advantage of rooting your phone is that you can load custom ROMS developed by un-official developers.

Custom ROMS have generally more features and better performance than the stock ones. Even if your phone doesn't have any firmware updates, then via loading custom ROMS you could upgrade your phone to the latest android OS too. Cyanogen mod ROMS are best for this purpose, they're sleek and smooth too.

Increased CPU Performance and Battery Life

There are some developers that tweak the 'Kernel' (the thing which communicates between hardware and software) to get extended CPU performance.

Even by Custom ROM's you could increase your phone's battery life because they have more free RAM Available and also less apps running in background compared to the default stock ROM's.

Special Apps

As mentioned before, there are some special applications that require root access. They could thing better and fast because they have access to the system files. Like these special apps could move apps in bulk from internal to external storage. They could uninstall files in bulk. These things could not be done without root access.

Also these apps could make backup of your full device like apps, contacts, logs, sms, calendar, bookmarks etc with just a single click.

Now let's talk about the risks of rooting your android device.

What are Disadvantages of Rooting?

So, what are the real harms of rooting?

Voiding Warranty (terrible disadvantage)

This is the biggest disadvantage of rooting your device. It will void the manufacture warranty of the device which you've got when you have stock ROM installed. It means if you do any mistake in installing Custom Roms and Kernels, then it may make your device act weird and the manufacturer is not responsible for it and not going to repair your device free of cost. But if your unroot your device than you may regain the manufacturer warranty.

Chances of Bricking

Rooting is similar to h@ck!ng. If you do any mistake then you may get in a big trouble. Same in this, if you don't follow the process of rooting properly, then your device may stop working. Then it will not be anything else than a digital 'brick' in your pocket. So make sure you follow each and every step correctly.

Risk of Viruses

When you load Custom ROM's made by unknown developers than there are chances that the ROM will have malicious code with it. May be your personal identity could be stolen, like your credit card info, your bank info or even your Passwords too.

Can I Unroot My Device, is it possible?

Yes, if there is any un-rooting guide available then it is possible to unroot it and gain the warranty again.

So How Could I Root My Device?

If you think that you need to root your device, than find your device from the list of all devices we currently have rooting guide available for if you cannot find yours, then tell us via contact form.

I hope now you learned so much on what is rooting. If you have any doubts, then tell me in comments I'd love to answer them.
